Bonuses are a way for banks to incentivize new customers to open an account. If you meet the criteria, they’re an easy way to earn some extra cash. With the holidays just around the corner, who wouldn’t want to have some extra money right now?
With these checking account bonuses, you can get up to $200 cash deposited right into your account. Keep in mind that the best checking account bonuses come from banks that don’t charge monthly fees just for having an account. While the banks on this list all have maintenance fees, you can get them waived if you meet the requirements.
Before opening a new account with any bank, you should make sure that you can consistently meet the criteria. That way, you don’t pay more per year in fees than what you earned from your bonus.

Huntington National Bank
Huntington 5 Checking
Do you live in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia? Then you can qualify for this $200 bonus by opening a new Huntington 5 Checking account before January 7, 2021, and fulfilling a few simple requirements.
To qualify, you have to deposit a minimum of 1,000 in the first 60 days and leave your account open for 90 days. Additionally, you cannot have held a new checking account in the last six months. After you meet the criteria, Huntington Bank will deposit your $200 bonus in two weeks or less.
You can open your Huntington 5 Checking account either online or in-person. If you decide to apply in-person, you will need to provide your email on the Huntington 5 Checking promo page so the bank can issue your offer code.
You have to pay a $5 monthly maintenance charge, but if you maintain an average balance of $5,000, Huntington Bank will waive it.
Chase Total Checking
If you don’t have a Chase checking account, closed a Chase account in the last 90 days, or closed one in the red, you can qualify for Chase Bank’s $200 checking account bonus. To earn the cash, you have to open a new Chase Total Checking account online before January 20, 2021, and enroll in direct deposits.
Once you meet the requirements, Chase will send your money ten in ten business days. This checking account comes with a $12 maintenance fee, but Chase will waive it if you meet the requirements. These include receiving a minimum of $500 in direct deposits each month, starting each day with at least $1,500, or maintaining an average daily balance of $5,000 in your existing Chase deposit accounts.
Citi Basic Banking Package
If you are new to Citibank or have not closed a checking account with this bank within 180 days, you can be eligible for the $200 bonus. To get the cash, open a new Citi Basic Banking Package online before January 5, 2021, and deposit $5,000 or more in the first 30 days. Once you do, Citi will deposit your funds 90 days after you qualify.
Like Chase, Citibank charges $12 per month for maintenance fees. But if you complete one qualifying direct deposit and one bill payment every statement cycle or have an average daily balance of $1,500 or more, Citi will waive the charge. Adults 62 and over are also exempt from this fee.
BB&T Bright Banking Account
Having an extra $200 in free money is an excellent way to start the new year, and it’s all yours if you meet BB&T Bank’s requirements. First, you have to open a new BB&T Bright Banking account online or in-person before December 31, 2020. You must also make two separate direct deposits of $500 in the first 75 days after opening your new account.
Like most checking account bonuses, you won’t qualify for this reward if you or someone else in your family has a BB&T checking account or closed one in the last year. 76 to 90 days after you open your new account, BB&T will review your eligibility based on your account activity. If you meet the criteria, the bank will deposit your $200 within four weeks following the review.
The BB&T Bright Banking Account comes with a $12 maintenance fee. Contact BB&T for details about how to waive this fee.
